Asbestos case: A French company gets maximum sentence
07/03/2008 On 6 March 2008, the court of appeal of Douai (north of France) upheld the sentence ruled last September by a criminal court against Alstom Power Boilers.
The company manufactures industrial boilers in Lys-les-Lannoy in the north of France, near Roubaix. It was found guilty of exposing its employees to asbestos.
Alstom Power Boilers was given the maximum fine of 75,000 by the court of appeal. It was however decided to give the former company director a jail sentence of 3 months instead of 9 months and a 3,000 fine.
