Course Report
Introduction to the new EU Lifelong Learning programme
On 21 and 22 February 2007 the Education department of ETUI-REHS held an “Info Day” to coincide with the launch of the first Call for proposals under the new EU “Integrated Lifelong Learning Programme”, the successor to the former EU programmes on education and training.
28 participants from 21 education departments of affiliated trade union organisations, mainly from Central and Eastern European countries, received a presentation of the structure of the new programme, which is part of the re-launch of the Europe-wide Lisbon strategy on employment.
The activity also aimed to inform trade union project promoters about ways of using the new programme for implementing trade union strategies and for exchanging information on good practices with trade union colleagues experienced in using the former EU education programmes.
The participants listened with particular interest to the presentation by DG EAC of the new strategy on “valorisation” of European projects.
ETUC Confederal Secretary Joel Decaillon stressed the importance of ensuring an active participation by trade unions in the Programme Committee and of implementing the programme through transnational projects coordinated by trade unions or in which they were partners.
