Our activities

The European Trade Union Institute for Research, Education, Health and Safety (ETUI-REHS) carries out a number of different activities.

The research and training dimension that underpins these activities is fundamental to the Institute's integrated activity.

The activities of the ETUI-REHS cover the following areas:

  • conducting independent, socio-economic research, in the areas of economic, labour market, social policy and industrial relations for the European Trade Union movement and actors working in the field of social Europe;
  • monitoring major European developments that impact on workers and their rights;
  • improving cooperation between the European trade union movement and academic institutions, research institutes and preventive and enforcement agencies;
  • coordinating, developing and participating in cross-border networks of researchers, research bodies and universities;
  • providing European training programmes for trade union officers and representatives;
  • offering a programme of initial and ongoing training for trainers to enable them to add a European dimension to national trade union education;
  • providing information on health and safety issues and policy while coordinating European networks of health and safety experts in the field of technical standards and chemicals.

As part of a need to respond to current challenges the ETUI-REHS has also created three working groups that cover three areas of growing importance to the evolution of social Europe:

  • Precarious employment;
  • Mobility;
  • Worker representation.

Full details on current activities are outlined in the ETUI-REHS annual work programme.
