Description

The book describes the main trends in the inflow of foreign direct investment to the ten CEE countries which are candidates for EU accession and the position within these countries of capital originating in the EU. The dynamics of change are analysed in accordance with the main channels of entry - privatisation, greenfield projects and acquisitions - and with different investment profiles. The main focus is on the various sets of factors and considerations underlying decisions to invest in the CEE region and on the strategies employed by companies prompted whether by market-seeking or by efficiency-seeking motives and their combinations on the ground. A second focus is aimed at ascertaining the impact of FDI, and EU capital in particular, on the development of labour markets in the countries in question in the areas of employment, wage-setting, working conditions and industrial relations patterns as they are emerging in foreign-owned companies.

Countries covered are Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovenia, Slovakia, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Bulgaria and Romania.
