SEEUROPE - Workers participation at board level in the SE - an element of good corporate governance

Description

The main activity of the SEEUROPE-project is to pursue monitoring of the introduction of workers’ participation at European level, to collect and present all relevant information on the issue on a particular section of info service www.worker-participation.eu of ETUI-REHS and to invest in conceptual thinking on how workers’ participation relates to the realisation of the European Social model. Analytically, SEEUROPE intends to investigate the contribution of workers’ board level representation to a Europeanisation of industrial relations.
The heart of the project is an expert network which covers 28 of the 30 concerned countries from EU (including Romania and Bulgaria) and European Economic Area. The network members continuously report on new developments in the field. In 2007 SEEUROPE will focus on the collection and assessment of the implementation of new EU-directives which are of relevance e.g. the 10th directive on cross-border merger. Moreover, current domestic developments on corporate law and corporate governance will be examined with regard to the impact on workers' participation.

The project will also continue to conduct case studies on new SE establishments which are of high importance for workers, e.g. in 2006 the Allianz SE or the MAN Diesel SE. It will also continue issuing topical information services like the compilation of the SE list. From 2007 on the project will pay attention to the development and impact of information and consultation to be exercised by SE-works council as to the existing practices and existence of EWCs. At least one of the network meetings is intended to focus on this special topic. The November meeting will be located in Lisbon in order to mark the Portuguese EU presidency. This meeting will be co-organised with Friedrich-Ebert-Foundation, Lisbon office, and focus on the contribution of workers' participation in building the European Social Model, even in EU member states where compulsory provisions do not exist.
