Macroeconomic dialogue and economic policy coordination in EMU
Description
This ongoing project is an 'umbrella' for the diverse work of the Institute in the area of economic policy coordination and the Macroeconomic Dialogue. It combines elements of pure research and policy support for the activities of the ETUC in this area. The challenge of EMU is to coordinate monetary, fiscal and wage policies, whereby the actors responsible for these policies (European Central Bank, Member States and Social partners) are acting at different levels (European, national or sub-national levels). This project is especially relevant for the trade unions as they participate directly in the Macroeconomic Dialogue themselves, and because of the strong links to wages policy and collective bargaining.
Although no own meetings are planned, the nature of this research project is such that attendance at a considerable number of academic conferences and more policy-oriented discussion groups during the year is required. One of the activities will be to provide expertise to the ETUC conference which will take place in the Spring.
