Description

This course, organised by ETUI-REHS Education in Lithuania for the European Federation of Building and Woodworkers (EFBWW), brought together representatives from 10 European countries to examine and compare self-employment and bogus self-employment practices in the construction sector in Europe, and to develop trade union strategies for reducing and preventing illegal work in the sector. The main presentations, which are downloadable below, focused on both regular and bogus self-employed workers and the different national situations, definitions and legal regulations regarding self-employment in Italy, Poland, Lithuania and Sweden. A broader view of the problem was provided by an EFFAT (food industry) representative, who described the poor working conditions and wages imposed by meat sector companies relocating or threatening to relocate their activities to countries where self-employment is not subject to strict regulation.
