European Social Model (ESM)
Description
The ESM is a key concept for trade unions as it expresses and regroups the various elements which the trade unions defend and promote, e.g. social dialogue, welfare systems, etc. The European Social Model is facing a host of challenges which are affecting policy-making and the policy choices made on both the European and the national level. These policy choices are in some cases taking a very different departure from previous policy choices and hence there is reason to believe that the ESM as we understand it today will change in a rather profound manner. Hence it is of importance that the ETUI-REHS follows up as well as develops its knowledge on the ESM. As such, this project is an "umbrella" under which the knowledge produced in many of the projects at the ETUI-REHS will be used to consolidate the knowledge that the institute already has on the ESM. No actual research will be conducted within this project but the results from many other ETUI-REHS research projects will be evaluated in the light of their contribution to the ESM. The projects from which the results will be used is the "Social dumping", "GATS", "flexicurity", "precarious work" and other projects at the ETUI-REHS will be included as well. A workshop is planned for March 2008.
