Employee Data Protection in the EU and its Member States
A conference was held on the 30th September – 1st October 2002 on data protection as a final part of the Commission's open consultation in preparation for its forthcoming report on the implementation of the 1995 Data Protection Directive.
Description
No reference was made to data protection for employees at the workplace. In the current consultation of the social partners in the framework of the European social dialogue, ETUI/ETUC will decide on the relevant topics to be analysed. This analysis should be complementary to the huge research project conducted by academics on the behalf of EU Commission. Specific aspects which could be envisaged to be analysed are problems of data protection of telework(ers) and the particular problems of data protection related to the assessment of stress at work. Our objective is thus to conduct a tailor-made research according to the needs of the ETUC, regarding the preparation of ongoing and future EU initiatives.
